International Medical Graduates

Specialty or Sub-Specialty Fellowship Training

International medical graduates who wish to spend a period of time working in a fellowship position in Australia or New Zealand should refer to the list of fellowship positions on this website. This list is not exhaustive and there may be posts advertised in medical journals or newspapers. All negotiations are to be directly with hospital and USANZ is unable to assist in this process.

Surgical Education and Training Program in Urology

To be eligible to enter the SET program, an International Medical Graduate must comply with the following generic eligibility criteria:

  1. citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia or New Zealand
  2. graduate of a medical school recognised by the Australian or New Zealand Medical Councils
  3. unconditional registration to practise in Australia or general scope registration to practise in New Zealand,
  4. satisfactorily completed internship and in PGY2 or later

Recognition of Formal Postgraduate Specialist Qualifications

If you are an International Medical Graduate with formal postgraduate specialist qualifications, you are advised to lodge an application for assessment as a specialist or assessment to practice in an Area of Need position through the Australian Medical Council (AMC) or The Medical Council of New Zealand. Your application and documentation will be forwarded to the College for an assessment.
