EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Urology training is part of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeon's new Surgical Education and Training (SET) program. This exciting new program started in 2008. It involves a re-think and re-structure of surgical training, as it moves away from the old apprenticeship model where surgery was taught as a craft, to an adult learning model where learning is self-directed, experiential, and reflective.

The introduction of SET is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of surgical education and training. It enables early selection into specialty training, and streamlines the training experience. More information on the SET program can be found on the RACS website www.surgeons.org More information about Urology, Urologists, and the SET program in Urology is available on the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) website www.usanz.org.au

The SET Urology program is delivered by the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) under an arrangement with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). The management of the training program is the responsibility of the Board of Urology, otherwise known as the Training, Accreditation and Education Committee (TA&E Committee).

The goal of the Board of Urology is to select, train and educate people with the ability to acquire the necessary surgical skills and competencies to become excellent urologists. We look for potential, recognizing that past behaviour predicts future performance. We promote ethical values and principles, and support and encourage continued learning throughout a professional career.

Detailed information about SET urology training, eligibility criteria and the selection process is available via the Surgical Education and Training (SET) sub-heading, accessible from the left-hand toolbar.
